it's been almost a month since my last kpop news roundup. August was just a slow news month in general though I feel like we all could have used a small vacation/break.
Anyway, we have a few news updates today so here we go!

Jennie Leaves Gentle Monster
In some shocking news today, Blackpink's Jennie has allegedly left gentle monster. Her exclusive contract with them has ended.
Jennie has been working with Gentle Monster since early 2020.
It was reported by "Celeb Fashion Magazine" that her exclusive contract with them has ended, though she will still be keeping a positive relationship with the brand by attending unofficial events/activities.
It's also being alleged that she will be soon becoming the model for another eyewear brand, most likely Rayban in which she was actually just seen at an event for the this morning (aka the day after this news was released).
Felix and Gentle Monster
On a side note from this, for those who don't follow the official Felix thread it was announced around 2 months ago that Felix has become a new brand ambassador for Gentle Monster and Gentle Monster's perfume brand Tamburins.
Originally people were expecting Jennie to remain the female face of Gentle Monster and Felix would become the male face of Gentle Monster, though it's now being heavily speculated that Felix will be taking over being the face of Gentle Monster from Jennie in general.
Originally people were speculating that Karina would take over Gentle Monster if Jennie ever left, though it seems Karina working with them was just a temporary thing and Felix is more likely to get the job.
If Felix gets the job then this would be the second position he takes over from Jennie. Felix recently became the new face of Hera cosmetics, a position which until recently was also held by Jennie.
Odd Atelier New Building
Now going back to Jennie:
Odd Atelier, Jennie's new company which she created herself after leaving YG, has leased a new building all for themselves by the Han River.
It has one basement level and four regular floors, and is a new build dating 2023. It has 16 person elevators, bathrooms on each floor, 7 ground-level parking spots, and was designed by Tae Sun Hong, the only American-licensed architect active in Korea to be named an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in 2024.
The building is worth ₩45 billion KRW which is a little over 32 million USD.
Jennie has previously said she was not interested in signing any artists under her label for now, but with this new big building netizens are speculating if she will be looking to signing artists in the near future.
JYP Ent AI Idols
Following SM Ent with Naevis, it seems JYP will be expanding into AI idols in the near future as well.
JYP Entertainment and its tech business subsidiary Blue Garage are currently working on creating AI Artists for the label. They claim to want to "redefine the relationship between fans and AI".
Somi Movie Debut
Soloist Somi has been announced to be making her actress debut soon!
Somi will be acting in the movie "Perfect Girl" which is a horror film described to be a cross over between Black Swan and SCREAM.
The movie follows a kpop group preparing to debut. There's only 4 spots for debut, and girls start to be hunted and attacked.

Taemin Comeback
In some Shinee news, Taemin has finally announced his comeback with a digital single Veil:
It's currently being speculated that this will be a Japanese single since he has a Japanese tour coming up soon also titled Veil.
This will be a long awaited comeback for Taemin, his last comeback was in August of 2024.
Mini MHJ Update
I am too lazy to write a proper write-up on this, and also some of this news is probably a few weeks old now, so i'm just adding a small blip about what news I forgot to report on here:
- The trial between MHJ and her former employee has been postponed due to MHJ's side asking for it to be postponed (I believe so she can focus on other trials, like the ones with Hybe and it's subsidiaries.) Korean Netizens are offering words of encouragement to her former employee, who is the vitctim, and are encouraging her to push through and keep fighting.
- MHJ won some more lawsuits against online negative comment people. Sort of the same thing happened like the last time she sued online comment people where most were dismissed, and the people who were found guilty had the money reduced from a few thousand dollars which MHJ was asking for to just a few hundred dollars (I think less than 200 dollars?) by the judge.
